why you should care about the met gala…
So besides the Met Gala being extremely relatable (secret and invite-only guest list) and totally accessible (individual tickets this year reportedly cost $35,000), it’s actually held for a good reason. The Costume Institute Benefit (AKA the Met Gala) is the main source of annual funding for the department's exhibitions, new additions, operating expenses and improvements. In other words, the money raised is used to maintain the exhibit for us to enjoy when we visit the Met Museum!

I’m producing the official Met Gala livestream again this year and even though I’m sworn to secrecy, I can tell you we’ll have all the exclusive coverage of the carpet hosted by Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony, and Ego Nwodim.
You can watch the stream live on Vogue’s digital platforms and YouTube starting at 5:30pm ET on Monday, May 5th. Turn the YT notification on so you can be reminded when it starts!
I’m SO excited to see how the celebs will interpret this year’s menswear/suiting dress code and who will annoy me by not following it at all. Lastly, something you may not know, the exhibition is inspired by curator Monica Miller’s 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity".
